MCBURNEY LAW OFFICES
________
In
yet another stunning example of your tax dollars hard at work on the
Potomac, the Congress of the United States has decided that law firms
in general, and this firm in particular, need to provide clients with
a written statement of its privacy policy. Of course this law fails to
take into account approximately 300 years of judicial history in this
country, and several thousand years in England, during which lawyers
have always had a duty of client confidentiality. Simply stated, we do
not make public your private information which we receive for any
reason unless you direct us to do so, or when a court orders us to
disclose same. This “policy” is called the attorney-client
privilege. Apparently the U.S. Congress, many of whom are lawyers, is
unaware of this “policy.” One of the sanctions for violating this
new law is that we would be precluded from divulging any of your
private information. As we have always been. Do you ever wonder if
Washington is really part of the U.S.? In compliance with the new law, here is our privacy policy notice: PRIVACY POLICY NOTICE Attorneys,
like other professionals who advise on personal financial matters, are
now required by a new federal law to inform their clients of their
policies regarding privacy of client information. Attorneys have been
and continue to be bound by legal and professional standards of
confidentiality that are even more stringent than those required by
this new law. Therefore we have always protected your right to
privacy. In
the course of providing our clients with income, estate and gift tax
advice, we may receive significant personal financial information from
our clients. If you are a client of McBurney Law Offices, PLLC, you
should know that all information we receive from you, not just
financial information, is held in confidence and not released to
persons outside the firm except as agreed to by you, ordered by a
court or required under an applicable law. We
retain records relating to financial services that we provide so that
we are better able to professionally assist you with your needs and in
some cases, to comply with professional guidelines. In order to guard
your nonpublic personal information we maintain physical, electronic
and procedural safeguards that comply with our professional standards.
